Herewith Dawid Kruiper Municipality wish to invite all our current and new suppliers to register on the National Treasury Central Supplier Database (CSD). Suppliers will no longer be registered at the municipality and are requested to self-register directly on the CSD by accessing the National Treasury website at www.secure.csd.gov.za
DAWID KRUIPER MUNICIPALITY: WATER IS SAFE FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION
Residents are hereby notified that the Municipal water is safe for consumption as per the indication
of the 73 microbiological samples taken between the 8th until the 20th of September 2022 by our
External Independent Water and Wastewater Specialist Consultants. The consultants also provide our
laboratory services. The Dawid Kruiper Municipality will be publishing all tests conducted on a monthly
basis on the municipal website.
We have received the results on test done for odours and taste. It has been found that the algal counts
in the Orange River has been detected. The treatment processes however ensure a significant
reduction by means of pre-chlorination, activated carbon and flocculants addition, sedimentation,
filtration and final water disinfection. Further treatment by means of dissolved air flotation is also
implemented should the need arise. This information was also shared with the Department of Water
and Sanitation for their further scrutiny as the custodian of water resource management.
Dawid Kruiper Municipality remains committed to supply safe drinking water. The necessary

Water Supply by Dawid Kruiper Municipality Complies with Safety
Standards and is Safe to Drink

The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) would like to categorically
state that the drinking water quality provided by the Dawid Kruiper Local
Municipality complies with safety standards and is safe to drink – this is based
on confirmed reports received by the DWS from Dawid Kruiper Local
Dawid Kruiper Local Municipality is the water service authority in Upington
and treats 48 Megaliters of water to a safe standard with the required
operational controls prescribed by the DWS to ensure that the water meet
drinking water quality.
Water is sampled at operational level hourly and daily at the water treatment
plant, 25 water samples from reservoirs, the distribution network and at points
The water is treated with active carbon dosing that absorbs taste and odours
and chlorinate the water with free chlorine for disinfection of total coliforms
and E. coli.
According to records received by DWS, their sampling indicated that water
meets drinking water quality and the residents of Upington were notified
The community is again informed that the water supply is affected by loadshedding experienced.
All reservoir levels are currently critically low and do not get sufficient time to fill up due to the
numerous pumping hours lost as well as the extremely high demand.
Therefore, the Municipality is requesting every community member to halt irrigation of plants
effective immediately until the current level of loadshedding is reduced to level 2. DKM will also
internally halt irrigation of all parks.
Possible actions to reduce water consumption additionally is as follows:
1. Use bath water and washing machine water for irrigation purposes.
2. Attend to any tap leaking within your yard and house.
3. Don’t fill up swimming pools or backwash pool filters.
We hereby ask cooperation from all residents to ensure water security.
