The Mayor of the Dawid Kruiper municipality, Mr Micheal Segede, with President Cyril Ramaphosa during the national heritage day celebrations which took place in Upington recently. The Mayor did the opening and welcoming at the Sandile Present library which was opened by the President.
The sod turning ceremony of Phase1 of the construction of a section of the Main Outfall Sewer took place today.
The proposed upgrade of the bulk outfall sewer pipeline in Lemoendraai, Upington is viewed as a necessity as the current infrastructure is operating beyond capacity. As a result, the system is subject to frequent localized sewage overflows and spills. If left unattended, it will have an effect on the environmental, public health and safety of the environment.
Given the current and planned future development within the area of Upington, and the expected resultant increase in sewage output, we plan to manage the overflow and spills.
The Dawid Kruiper Municipality has therefore, seen it essential to upgrade a section of the sewer pipeline during the 2019-2020 financial year, this will be phase one (1) of the project which entails four (4) phases. This would be the departure point to eradicate the sewer spills in Upington.
The main components of phase 1 are:
-Installation of 792m stainless steel reinforced HDPE sewer pipe 900mm
– Installation of 756m stainless steel pipe reinforced HDPE sewer pipe 800mm in
The Dawid Kruiper Tourism section recently hosted grade 12 tourism learners from Rietfontein Combined School on a tourism educational field trip to the Khomani San Communal Property Association.
They were accommodated at a tented bush camp on the farm Erin. The farm forms part of Northern Cape’s world heritage site. These young people were entertained with a walking trail, game drive, tourism awareness discussions on tourism as a career and business venture. The tourism awareness program forms part of the Dawid Kruiper Tourism Section’s Tourism Month initiatives. The intention is to educate and inform the community on the importance of tourism, sustainable tourism development and practices.
“Tourism Month is an annual celebration held during September which focus on the importance of tourism to the economy of the world and is aimed at encouraging South Africans to travel within their country and get a better understanding of the fun, affordable and exciting attractions available to them on their own doorstep.
